About this Project

The photographs explore the experience of maternity in Slovenia, which has one of the most supportive laws surrounding parental leave arrangements in the world. In Slovenia, the father is entitled to paternity leave for 90 days and the mother is given 105, with an extra 260 days of care and security leave.

In spite of recent government savings measures that cut social benefits, Slovenia is one of the few countries that guarantee parents nearly a fully compensated annual salary.

The state also welcomes a newborn child with a package of useful goods or symbolic financial assistance of around 260 Euros, while local communes may offer them some extra. assistance

Even as pregnancy rates in Slovenia rise above Europe’ s average of 1.27 children per woman in recent years, low birth rates continue to pose a common problem in changing European demographics.
